How Clinicmaster AI works — and where it runs.
Clinicmaster runs on Microsoft Azure, and its AI features run on Azure OpenAI models with Google Gemini also available. This page is the plain answer to the questions clinic owners actually ask: which models, hosted where, secured how — and what the AI is deliberately not allowed to do.
The Clinicmaster AI platform
Clinicmaster’s AI features are served by a dedicated AI service that orchestrates large language models rather than hosting its own. It calls Azure OpenAI models — GPT-4o, GPT-4o-mini and GPT-3.5-Turbo — and Google Gemini, retrieves relevant clinical content from Azure AI Search and Azure Cosmos DB vector stores, and uses Azure OpenAI Whisper for transcription. The whole platform runs on Microsoft Azure, with secrets held in Azure Key Vault and service-to-service calls authenticated by token. These are infrastructure choices we make, not integrations a clinic configures.
What the AI platform is made of.
Not a black box and not a bolt-on. These are the specific components behind AI Charting and the in-app assistants.
Hosted on Microsoft Azure
Clinicmaster and its AI service run on Azure infrastructure — app services, storage and managed data platforms — rather than self-managed servers.
Azure OpenAI models
The AI features call GPT-4o, GPT-4o-mini and GPT-3.5-Turbo through Azure OpenAI. OpenAI is reached as an internal dependency via Azure, not as a connection a clinic sets up.
Google Gemini available too
Gemini is supported alongside the Azure OpenAI models, so model choice is an engineering decision we can revisit without changing how the product works for you.
Grounded in your own content
Azure AI Search and Azure Cosmos DB vector search retrieve the relevant material before the model answers, so responses are grounded in real content rather than invented.
Transcription via Whisper
Dictation is transcribed using Azure OpenAI Whisper. It runs when the clinician asks for a result — it is not ambient, always-on listening.
Secrets in Azure Key Vault
Model keys and connection strings are held in Azure Key Vault through Azure App Configuration, and service-to-service calls are authenticated by token — no credentials in the app.
What happens when a clinician uses AI Charting.
The clinician dictates or types.
Documentation is captured during or after the visit. Nothing is being processed in the background while you work — the clinician decides when to run it.
A draft is produced, grounded in real content.
On request, the audio is transcribed with Whisper and an Azure OpenAI model drafts the note, with relevant material retrieved from the vector store first.
The clinician edits and signs.
The draft is exactly that. The clinician reviews, corrects and signs it — notes are never auto-finalised, and clinical judgment stays with the clinician.
What the AI is not allowed to do
Stated plainly, because it matters more than the model names. The AI does not generate billing, diagnosis or ICD codes — ICD codes are a read-only input, never an output, and coding stays a manual, human decision. Transcription is not ambient: it runs when the clinician asks for a result, not continuously. Notes are never auto-finalised — a clinician reviews and signs. And these platform components are not customer-configurable: Azure, Azure OpenAI and Gemini are how we build the product, not integrations you connect.
